Patrice Bergeron breaks silence on whether or not he plans on returning to the NHL
Paul Bissonnette of the Spittin' Chiclets podcast suggests that a former Bruins forward is gearing up for an NHL return.
After ending his National Hockey League career following the 2022-23 season, it's being reported by Spittin' Chiclets that former Boston Bruins captain Patrice Bergeron is gearing up for an NHL return.
On the podcast, Paul Bissonnette said that he's heard Bergeron might be making a comeback, with Ryan Whitney adding that he's been skating in the Boston area, but potentially to stay fresh for alumni games, which Biz doesn't believe.
"I'm hearing that El Capitan might be making a comeback." Bissonnette said.
Ryan Whitney went on to add, "Apparently, Bergeron has been skating around here a little bit. Now, we get word he skates a little bit just to stay fresh for the alumni games. Which that's a little like, you're probably 20 years younger than most of the guys playing in the alumni games. But he's a professional. He's a workhorse, so maybe he is. But if Patrice Bergeron is out there skating around looking at maybe a February comeback, can you imagine the Bruins fans?"
While Bissonnette may think a return is in the card for the former Bruins captain, according to the man himself, in an interview with the Boston Globe earlier this month, he said that he is not planning an NHL comeback.
The 38-year-old spent his entire 19-year NHL career with the Boston Bruins, putting up 1,040 points (427 goals, 613 assists) in 1,294 games, along with 128 points in 170 Stanley Cup Playoff contests.
While it's probably unlikely that Bergeron will be returning to the Bruins or the NHL in general, but it would be an incredible story if he did, given that it's Boston's 100th anniversary season.
Today Bergeron had the following comment:
In case anyone wanted to know, I asked Patrice Bergeron about his «comeback». Via text, he responded «I am NOT making a comeback.» His emphasis on the «NOT.» Carry on.
