Bruins GM Addresses Future of Brad Marchand in Boston
With the Boston Bruins season now over, GM Don Sweeney was recently asked about the future of the franchise's captain Brad Marchand, who will be entering the final year on his contract next season. Sweeney's response indicates he doesn't want Marchand going anywhere.
The 36 year old, Marchand signed an eight-year $49M deal signed during the 2016-17 season. Marchand has played his entire 15 year career in Boston. His agitating style of play, drives his opponents crazy but it's what endears him to the fans and his teammates.
Sweeney addressed Marchand's future during his season-end press conference.
«Yeah, we're going to get to Brad. He's learning patience as a captain as well,» Sweeney told reporters, per a Bruins transcript. «So, he has to learn there's some ducks in a row in terms of adding to our group and how he wants to add to that, and those guys that don't have contracts up ahead, and eventually he'll extend here. He'll be a lifelong Bruin, that's what we should do. But we'll check that box.»
It would be hard to picture Marchand in any other jersey. After years of terrorizing the league with Boston, it would be fitting to see him sign a contract to finish with the same team.
You might love him or hate him but you will be entertained by Brad Marchand.
