The Sabres have played more games than virtually the entire league so far this year, thanks to the fact that they were one of two teams that travelled to Europe to open the season in the NHL global series. Despite this, the team remains at the bottom of the Atlantic division with just 2 points. This is in part due to the fact that the Sabres dropped both games against the Devils in Prague.
Since returning to North America, the Devils are 1-1, with a loss to the LA Kings and then finally their first win of the season against the Florida Panthers on Saturday. Even then though, the Panthers were missing key players in Matthew Tkachuk and their captain, Alexander Barkov. One could imagine how the Sabres would have started the year off 0-4-0 if those two forwards were in the lineup for Florida that night.
Unfortunately, the bad news for the Sabres does not end there. Clearly, the players are feeling the pressure as tensions around the team are already high. There has already been major drama surrounding the team as new captain Rasmus Dahlin got into an altercation with Payton Krebs at a recent practice.
If the team continues to unravel like this it would not be surprising to see some changes made, especially considering the fact that they have not made the playoffs in over a decade. In fact, a report came out today indicating that the team could look to replace Kevyn Adams at GM if these struggles continue.
The team's schedule is fairly easy over the next week or so as they face the Penguins, Blue Jackets, and Blackhawks. If they don't pick up at least two wins out of those games we may very well see alarm bells start going off in Buffalo. If that happens, be sure to keep an eye on the team for more big updates.
