The Boston Bruins and Florida Panthers have a heated rivalry that has culminated in Stanley Cup Playoff matchups. In both seasons the Boston Bruins were taken down by the Florida Panthers. Today the Bruins are looking to get some revenge in this early-season matchup.
Just over halfway through the first period between the Panthers and Bruins things went off the rails. First Boston Bruins star David Pastrnak makes contact with Florida Panthers star Sam Reinhart away from the puck. Panthers defenseman Nate Schmidt seemed to not appreciate the hit and went after David Pastrnak. As David Pastrnak goes to defend himself Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand comes in and takes down Nate Schmidt protecting his teammate. The entire wild sequence can be seen down below.
Brad Marchand destroys Nate Schmidt in a heated clash
With both teams hoping to make it back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs today's game is likely just setting the tone for what is to come eventually. The Panthers are playing today without two of their biggest stars Aleksander Barkov and Matthew Tkachuk. Barkov and Tkachuk are both missing their second straight game due to separate ailments.
As it stands the Florida Panthers lead against the Boston Bruins 2-1 as the second period gets underway. Goals from Sam Reinhart and Anton Lundell have set the tone for Florida while Boston had the original lead after a tally from John Beecher.
As the game continues all eyes will be on Brad Marchand and Nate Schmidt to see if they take things to another level. With the history between these two teams, the scuffles and fights likely aren't over yet.
