Flames forward willing to stay in Calgary despite report he wanted out
Earlier this summer, it was reported that a number of Calgary Flames players were leaning towards not re-signing with the organization in 2024. Among those players was Swedish forward Elias Lindholm.
In a recent interview with Swedish media outlet Hockeysverige, Lindholm said that he is willing to remain with the Calgary Flames beyond the 2023-24 season, but will leave contract talks to his agent and the team's front office.
"I am willing to stay," Lindholm said. "My agent and Calgary will handle most of it. There's a lot we have to agree on, but l've said that I can consider staying. After that, it's up to the agent and Calgary to sort out the rest. Then we'll see whether it works out or not.
"I have one year left, but if things don't go as l've planned, then I'Il become a free agent. Nothing strange about that. We'll see what happens."
The 28-year-old has spent the past five seasons with the Calgary Flames after being dealt to them by the Carolina Hurricanes in 2018. He's been a fairly consistent player during his time in Calgary, even setting new career-highs in goals (42) and points (82) two seasons ago.
With the Calgary Flames looking to fill their vacant captaincy role, Lindholm will likely be one of a number of players considered, including Mikael Backlund and Rasmus Andersson.
In 80 games last season, the Boden native had 64 points (22 goals, 42 assists), 14 penalty minutes and was a plus-six.
