The Calgary Flames have placed a 30-year-old Kevin Rooney on the waiver wire after things haven't worked out for the team.

The Calgary Flames were the lone team to get in on the waiver wire on Monday afternoon.

According to TSN's Chris Johnston, the Flames have placed forward Kevin Rooney on waivers for the purpose of sending him to the American Hockey League.

"Placed on NHL waivers today: Kevin Rooney (CGY)." Johnston said.

Rooney, 30, has missed the entire 2023-24 season thus far after undergoing shoulder surgery in early October. He injured his shoulder during a practice with the Flames during training camp.

Last season, the Canton, Massachusetts native split time between the Flames and their AHL affiliate, the Calgary Wranglers. In 17 games for the Flames, Rooney had one assist, while also tallying 17 points in 51 AHL games.

If Rooney clears waivers on Tuesday, he'll be assigned to the AHL's Calgary Wranglers where he'll begun to ramp up his on-ice activities for a return to game action.
