Earlier this week, the Calgary Flames and General Manager Brad Treliving decided to part ways after nearly nine years in that position with the organization.

The Flames' GM search will begin in the coming weeks, but on an interim basis, former New York Islanders and Arizona Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney will oversee things and was also promoted to President of Hockey Operations.

It was a bit puzzling as to why Brad Treliving left his position with the Flames. Sure, he was out of contract at the end of the 2022-23 season, but an offer was made from ownership to keep him in Calgary and he declined.

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, Treliving left the Calgary Flames because he could no longer work with the team's Head Coach, Darryl Sutter. The pair worked together for just over two years after Sutter was brought back to the Flames in March 2021.

As for Sutter's status going into next season, that remains up in the air and during the media availability on Monday afternoon following Treliving's departure, Flames CEO John Bean said that everything is on the table.
