Edmonton Oilers furious after NHL review blows obvious call costing them the game
The Edmonton Oilers were expected to run away with the Western Conference playoffs. Picked by most as the odds on favorite to win the West, the Oilers have however disappointed so far. After losing game 1, the Oilers came back to tie the series. As the series shifted to Los Angeles both teams were looking for an edge.
Another close game saw the two teams head to a 2nd overtime game of the series. And again the game ended in controversy. On the game winning play the Oilers were adamant that Gabe Vilardi had contacted the puck with a high stick.
However the referees on the ice had not spotted it and the play continued. While some Oilers clamored for a penalty the Kings moved the puck around. Eventually it found its way to Trevor Moore in front of the net who buried the game winning goal.
The Situation Room would take time to review the play, but ultimately came up with the decision that none of the angles provided conclusive evidence that pick in fact contacted the stick.
The NHL provided the following update after the game.
In this case the Situation Room differs back to the original call on the ice making the call a good goal and fixing the LA Kings a 2-1 series lead.
What do you think? Was this a high stick?
