Several names have been tossed around by NHL insiders, but one name that they've reportedly had their eye on, even before they parted ways with Dubas, is Brad Treliving.
According to James Mirtle of The Athletic, he heard about the potential for Treliving becoming the next General Manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the middle of the 2022-23 season, which is interesting considering both Treliving and Dubas were still working for their respective teams. Mirtle added that he also received a text message about the possibility back on March 10th.
Treliving, 53, was hired by the Flames in April 2014 and spent nearly nine years as the team's general manager, constructing five playoff teams during his tenure in Calgary. It's believed that part of the reason he left the Flames back in April due to a deteriorating relationship with Head Coach Darryl Sutter, who was fired two weeks after Treliving parted ways with the organization.
There's no doubt that Treliving will be a top candidate for Maple Leafs President Brendan Shanahan and MLSE, but they'll do an extensive search, looking at all their options to make sure they have the right person for the job.
