Trio of teams reportedly interesting in acquiring Noah Hanifin
It's been known for a little while now that the Calgary Flames and defenceman Noah Hanifin are likely heading towards a breakup ahead of the trade deadline on March 8th.
Hanifin is set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer and ideally, wants to be playing for a contending team, while the Flames are in a bit of a limbo as to what their future holds.
According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, teams know that Hanifin is looking for a long-term contract and has linked him to the Arizona Coyotes, Boston Bruins and New Jersey Devils.
"Hanifin held off signing an eight-year extension with Calgary at the start of the season worth a reported $7.5M per season. The Flames reapproached him recently, but no deal yet. Teams know what he wants long-term, which might not help trade negotiations from Calgary's perspective, but if the Flames can't convince him to stay, they'll look to move him." Pagnotta said.
Hanifin, 27, is playing fairly well so far this season and is on pace to set a new career-high in goals, which is currently ten, that he had during the 2017-18 and 2021-22 seasons.
In 45 games this season, the Boston native has 25 points (eight goals, 17 assists), 22 penalty minutes and is a plus-ten.
It's going to be interesting to see what happens with Noah Hanifin over the coming weeks and if the Calgary Flames will take one final shot at trying to get him signed to an extension.
