The Calgary Flames have been on the verge of a rebuild for a number of years, but now it appears they're holding onto three key veterans despite interest as they continue to push for a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

This past week, the Calgary Flames made a trade that shocked the NHL, as they acquired Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee, clearly signalling their intent to continue their push for a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

With the move, many also looked towards some of their veterans and wondered what it meant for them, but on his latest Sportsnet appearance, top NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman confirmed their plans.

"So one of the most interesting things about the Calgary Flames is that they made a big deal this week getting Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee. But the Flames have told teams that Rasmus Andersson, Nazem Kadri, and MacKenzie Weegar are not available.

They have told specifically to the teams who have asked about those three players, 'We're keeping them, we're in the race, and they're important to us."

This comes after plenty of speculation on the future of Andersson in particular, who could be a coveted trade chip at the 2025 deadline, but with the Flames currently in a Wild Card spot, they clearly don't want to move any of their veterans.

With five weeks to go until the deadline, plenty can change between now and then, but the team continue to play well in front of rookie goaltender Dustin Wolf, and if that continues, don't be shocked to see them pursue a cheap trade deadline addition, rather than moving any of Kadri, Andersson or Weegar, who make up plenty of the Flames leadership group.
