According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Carolina Hurricanes have placed goaltender Antti Raanta on waivers for the purpose of assigning him to the American Hockey League.
Raanta, 34, has appeared in 14 games this season for the Carolina Hurricanes where he has a record of 6-5-1 along with a 3.61 goals against average, an .854 save percentage and one shutout.
Given the absence of Frederik Andersen, who is unlikely to play at all for the remainder of the 2023-24 season, it's a bit surprising to see Raanta on waivers and brings up a lot of questions, including if the Carolina Hurricanes are about to go out into the trade market for a new goaltender to play with Pytor Kochetkov.
There should be plenty of interest in Antti Raanta from teams around the National Hockey League including the Edmonton Oilers and New Jersey Devils who are looking for goaltending help. We'll find out at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday if Raanta gets claimed or not.
