Carolina Hurricanes forward facing possible supplemental discipline after ending up on the wrong bench
During the 3rd period of the Carolina Hurricanes versus New York Islanders game, an interesting play occurred. The play in question occurred with the New York Islanders leading 3-2.
As the puck is carried up the ice Martin Necas was checked into the New York Islanders bench. As Necas stands up it's clear members of the Islanders have some words for him. As Necas stands up he reaches over and punches Brock Nelson directly in the face.
The Islanders look to reply, but a heads up play by the coaching staff stops the players from retaliation. The NHL has issuer multiple fines and suspensions in the past for players interacting physically with those not involved in the play.
It's very likely the NHL Department Player Safety will take a look at this punch, but it would be surprising to see more than a fine surface from this incident.
