On the third team of his NHL career, Frederik Andersen has had injury problems follow him throughout his career. Now in a tragic turn, Andersen is facing a significant medical condition that will take him out of the net indefinitely.
Earlier today, the Hurricanes GM Don Waddell announced that Andersen was found to have a blood clotting issue during routine medical tests, and he will not be cleared to play games indefinitely.
It's a horrible situation for a star-quality goaltender on a cup contending team. When healthy and at his prime, Andersen is capable of being one of the best netminders in the league; but he's only played more than 35 games once in the last 5 seasons.
All hockey fans will be rooting for Andersen to make a quick and full recovery, and be able to appear once again for the Hurricanes this season.
