In a post on social media on Wednesday, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman shared that the Carolina Hurricanes are working on a long-term contract extension for defenceman Jaccob Slavin.
Slavin is entering the final year of his current contract this fall and is eligible to sign an extension with the Hurricanes on Monday, July 1st.
Slavin, 30, has spent his entire nine-year career in the National Hockey League with the Carolina Hurricanes, the team that drafted him 120th overall back in 2012. This season, the Denver, Colorado native appeared in 81 games where he put up 37 points (six goals, 31 assists), eight penalty minutes and was a plus-21. He added three points in 11 playoff games.
Along with working on Slavin's contract extension, GM Eric Tulsky has some big decisions to make in the coming weeks. Jake Guentzel, Teuvo Teravainen, Brett Pesce and Brady Skjei are among the team's more prominent free agents, who can hit the open market at Noon ET on July 1st. Meanwhile, Martin Necas, Seth Jarvis and Jack Drury are all restricted free agents. Necas has been linked to trade rumours ever since the Hurricanes were eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Hurricanes are going to be an intriguing team to keep an eye on this summer as Tulsky looks to improve his roster for 2024-25 in order to reach their first Stanley Cup Final since 2006.
