The rumour mill has been flying early in the off-season when it comes to the Toronto Maple Leafs particularly around two players that ended up being huge parts of the team last season. I am of course, talking about Bertuzzi and Max Domi
According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman on the Leafs nation podcast There's one thing standing between Domi and Bertuzzi re-signing with the team for next season and beyond, but it's not what you would think.
Friedman mentions that the leaves are worried about term for both Dom and Bertuzzi, which I think is a fair concern.
While both were Important parts of team down the stretch they didn't really have a great season and it took them a while to get their footing. On a longer term contract that's the worry about Domi and Bertuzzi. Both are both a year away from turning 30. Statistically It's not too far after 30 when we see hockey players start to decline in their performance.
The Toronto Maple Leafs taking their time and not rushing in to signing these two players is a smart move, especially considering both of them didn't crack the 50 point plateau last season.
