Chicago Blackhawks place newly acquired player on waivers to terminate his contract after just two games with the franchise
On February 27th the Chicago Blackhawks and Toronto Maple Leafs swung a trade that sent Jake McCabe and Sam Lafferty in exchange for a conditional 2025 1st round pick, 2026 2nd round pick, Joey Anderson and Pavel Gogolev. Gogolev had played most of this season with the Newfoundland Growlers of the ECHL.
After the trade Gogolev reported to the Rockford IceHogs of the AHL. Gogolev reported to the AHL and played 2 games for the team scoring 1 goal. Today though the Blackhawks made the surprising announcement that they had placed Gogolev on unconditional waivers for the purposes of terminating his contract.

If Gogolev clears waivers he is expected to return to Russia or returning to Newfoundland with the Growlers, where he'll continue his professional hockey career.
