In an interview this past week with NHL.com's Tracey Myers, Blackhawks defenceman Seth Jones said that he would like to become Chicago's next captain.

"I've always wanted to be a captain," Jones said. "I've learned from some great leaders - Shea Weber, Nick Foligno, Jonathan Toews - I mean, I played with some of the greatest captains that we've seen. It would be pretty special."

He went on to add, "I understand where the organization is at. I'm focused on going and just playing my game and leading whether I have a 'C,' an 'A,' or nothing on my jersey. I don't think that should change."

Jones, 28, is entering the second season of an eight-year contract that will see him earn $9.5 million AAV and keep him in 'The Windy City' until after the 2029-30 season. Last year, Jones was named an alternate captain, splitting duties with Connor Murphy and there's no doubt that he'll be apart of the team's leadership group going forward, even if he isn't named captain.

Other than Seth Jones, the most likely option to wear the 'C' in Chicago is 2023 first-overall pick Connor Bedard. They may hold off on naming a captain this season and give it to Bedard ahead of the 2024-25 season, but it's unclear at this time what the Blackhawks' plans may be.
