Zach Parise had a 19 season NHL career, which concluded last night when his Colorado Avalanche were eliminated from the playoffs.

Last night the Colorado Avalanche had their season come to a disappointing end. A double overtime game winner by Matt Duchene, sent the Dallas Stars through to the conference Finals and ended Colorado season. With the end of the Avalanche's season also comes the end of Zach Parise 's Hall of Fame worthy career.

When Parise signed with the Avalanche, he made it clear this was his last opportunity to win a Stanley Cup. After 18 years in the league. He made the decision that Colorado represented his best opportunity to capture one of the most elusive trophy in sports. Parise played 30 regular season games for Colorado. Scoring five goals and adding five assists.

However, in 11 playoff games he was only able to contribute two goals and one assist. Now it now appears his career is over and he will transition to whatever comes next.

Parise has said that he would retire after this season. He also had an emotional exchange with Peter DeBoer. Those two went to the 2012 Stanley Cup Final with New Jersey.

The moment shared after the game with former Head Coach, Peter DeBoer was an emotional one and almost certainly signals the end of his career. Parise will retire having played 1091 career games, scoring 388 goals and adding 405 assists. Parise will go down as one of the best American-born players played the game.
