Avalanche's Mikko Rantanen scores nicest empty net goal of the season
Empty net goals are usually just a way for a team to add to their lead at the end of a game, seldom are they of the highlight reel variety, but that wasn't the case last night.
Last night in a game between the Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche, the Stars pulled their goaltender being down in the game, only for Avs star forward to score a highlight reel goal in the yawning cage:
Mikko Rantanen saw an opportunity with the goalie pulled and the Avs up by two to do something incredible. Leading 4-2, Rantanen takes a shot at the empty net from his own end and ends up going cross bar and in.
I've never seen an empty netter quite like this, if anyone was going to score a goal like that though, it would be Rantanen.
Talk about rubbing salt in the wound while Dallas was already down though, with 12 seconds left to boot. The Stars must've been happy to get out of Denver.
