Before the year even began, the Colorado Avalanche had an uphill battle to fight. After major surgery it was as unclear if Captain Gabriel Landeskog would play again. To are additional challenges, the Avalanche are without forward Valeri Nichushkin after he entered the NHL's Player Assistance program.
Despite all the bad news, the Avalanche finally have some good news coming out of the All Star Break.
Landeskog is expected to be back with the team for the road trip in some capacity. However, there's still no update on Nichushkin.

The Avalanche haven't clarified what role Landeskog, who has been skating on his own, will play if any at this time. Gabriel Landeskog was injured all the way back in 2022, and he hasn't played a single game since winning the Stanley Cup against the Tampa Bay Lightning. During the Stanley Cup run, he scored 22 points in 20 games.
The 31-year-old had cartilage transplant surgery on his knee back in May of 2023, and it was announced in early December that he was going to miss the rest of the 2023-2024 season.
It is not 100% confirmed that he's going to be able to play hockey again. Hopefully, the Avalanche Captain can see his way back on the ice as soon as possible.
