Gabriel Landeskog hasn't played a single hockey game in almost 2 years. His last game saw his Colorado Avalanche win the Stanley Cup and the forward has yet to play a game since. This continues to show just how difficult it is to win a Stanley Cup and the price it takes on your body.
Yesterday afternoon the Colorado Avalanche announced that today the team beholding a press conference with Landeskog as the only topic on the agenda. Fans immediately began to think the worst about the captain and thought today's announcement could be a potential retirement. Luckily for Avalanche fans and unluckily for the rest of the NHL it was the exact opposite.
Today Landeskog announced his intention to return to the team for next season. The captain's return would be a much needed boost for a team that fell short in the playoffs the last 2 years in a row.
Landeskog was unwilling to put a timeline on his return but hopes to return to play for next season. At 31 years old an additional season missed would likely mark the end of his career.
This is an incredibly positive time for both the Avalanche and for Landeskog. At the very least the captain will be able to complete his career on his terms.
