The Colorado Avalanche have a mix of young and veteran talent, many of whom have already won the Stanley Cup - but Nathan MacKinnon believes it takes veteran leadership.

The Colorado Avalanche have already won the Stanley Cup in recent years, prevailing over the Tampa Bay Lightning in 6 games in the 2022 Cup Final to claim their first title since 2001.

Superstar forward Nathan MacKinnon, who helped lead the Avs to championship glory and hopes to do so again this year, believes that it takes mostly veteran talent in order to be the last team standing.

Nathan MacKinnon loves Colorado's acquisition of Brock Nelson from the New York Islanders

Among the additions that the Avalanche made at the Trade Deadline were bringing in Ryan Lindgren and Jimmy Vesey from the New York Rangers along with veteran Brock Nelson from the New York Islanders.

Nelson faced off against MacKinnon as part of the 4 Nations Faceoff twice, and MacKinnon is happy to have him on his side.

Yeah, I know Brock (Nelson) from over the years, we have the same strength coach so we've been to the same camps, and [I'm] really excited. He's an amazing player. Yeah, really happy.

MacKinnon was named the MVP of the 4 Nations Faceoff, which culminated in a dramatic 3-2 OT win for Canada over the Americans at TD Garden.

The Avalanche forward and assistant captain already has 98 points (25G, 73A) in 63 games. His newest teammate in Nelson has 43 points (20G, 23A) in 61 games, and hopes to help the Avalanche on another long postseason run with a chance at winning the Stanley Cup.
