The Columbus Blue Jackets opened their 2023-24 schedule on Thursday night against the Philadelphia Flyers, which was the kick-off of the Adam Fantilli era.

Unfortunately for the Blue Jackets, they lost their best defenceman early on as Zach Werenski, who missed the majority of the 2022-23 season with a shoulder injury, was forced to leave Thursday's game.

Werenski was hit knee-on-knee from Philadelphia Flyers forward Garnet Hathaway. He needed to be helped off the ice by teammates, but couldn't put much pressure, if any at all on his right leg.

Hathaway came over to Werenski to apologize as he was being helped off the ice and thankfully for the Flyers, he was allowed to stay in the game. The officials initially called it a five-minute major, but after a review, brought it down to a two-minute minor for kneeing.

Do you think Hathaway will receive a fine from the NHL Department of Player Safety on Friday? Let us know your thoughts in the poll below.

Update: Werenski will not return to the game tonight.
