The Columbus Blue Jackets find themselves in a difficult position as training camp opens for the 2024-2025 season. As difficult as it is to move on, they find themselves looking for a forward to fill the void on their team with the tragic passing of Johnny Gaudreau. While they have already done their due diligence, signing veteran James Van Riemsdyk to a contract to help alleviate their current situation, they are on the lookout for another forward via trade.
While it's not known what type of player the Blue Jackets could be on the lookout for, there could be many players who have outstayed their welcome on their current club or they just don't fit the plans due to reasons such as cap constraints.
However, if Don Waddell is looking for someone to come into Columbus, it's likely someone who has a firm grasp of what leadership should look like. The fact of the matter is that the team just lost their most important player due to a tragic accident nobody could have envisioned and on top of the idea that they need to be able to play the game, coming into a fractured locker room that needs to heal is as important as anything.
The Blue Jackets need to do their homework and make sure they aren't acquiring someone just for the sake of getting a healthy body. Unfortunately in this situation, there are several difficult intricacies to consider before the season opens up on October 8th.
