NHL Department of Player Safety announces if Matt Dumba will be suspended for hit on Joe Pavelski
The Minnesota Wild and the Dallas Stars kicked off their 1st round series last night in Dallas. The Minnesota Wild walked away with the victory after a Ryan Hartman overtime goal sent the Stars fans home unhappy.
The Stars may have lost more than the game last night after midway through the 2nd period, Stars' center Joe Pavelski was on the receiving end of a massive hit from Matt Dumba. After the hit Pavelski's head collided with the ice and left him shaken.
On the hit Dumba received a 2-minute minor for roughing, but many felt this hit was deserving of a much harsher penalty. Stars fans felt that this was a blindside hit and potentially an illegal check to the head.
According to Greg Wyshynski the league has made their decision on the play:
News: @NHLPlayerSafety will NOT have a hearing for @mnwild defenseman Matt Dumba after his hit took @DallasStars center Joe Pavelski out of Game 1 last night.
Source tells me it was considered "close to being late, but within allowable window." Dumba was given a roughing minor.
This decision likely won't sit well with Stars fans or players. There is a very good chance that the Wild and Dumba will see some sort of retribution as the series continues tomorrow night.
