Detroit Red Wings forward Jonatan Berggren nearly hit by tram in Sweden
Once the 2022-23 season came to a close, Detroit Red Wings forward Jonatan Berggren knew he wanted to represent his nation at the 2023 IIHF World Hockey Championship.
Ahead of the tournament, Berggren was in Sweden preparing with his teammates and he told reporters that he was almost hit by a tram while crossing the street to get to the arena zfor an exhibition game.
Berggren detailed that he didn't hear the tram coming, as he had headphones on, and he needed to jump out of the way or else he would have been ran over.
"I had headphones on when I went to the match," Berggren said. "It was close. I looked up at the last second and had to jump. First and hopefully last near-death experience for me."
While he said it was a scary experience, which was also echoed by the teammates that were there at the time, Berggren would go on to perform quite well in his first senior men's tournament for the Swedish National Team. In eight games, the 22-year-old recorded seven points (two goals, five assists) as Sweden finished a disappointing sixth place following a loss to Latvia in the quarter-finals.
