Things have not been going well for the Detroit Red Wings with about one third of the 2024-25 NHL regular season in the books. It just got worse.
Veteran forward Patrick Kane has not played since Nov 23 against the Boston Bruins as he deal with what's being called an upper-body injury.
The Detroit Red Wings announced this morning that Kane has been placed on injured reserve retroactive to Nov 23.
After narrowly missing the playoffs last season, the Detroit Red Wings have not fared well in the first part of the latest NHL season. Many are starting to wonder whether head coach Derek Lalonde is in danger of losing his job.
Meanwhile, Polarizing former NHL head coach Joel Quenneville has been linked to the team via an insider's report.
While getting Patrick Kane back into the lineup could help with the team's lack of scoring, it hasn't exactly been a stellar season so far for the 36-year-old, who has just three goals in 20 games.
Placing the veteran on IR could be a sign that he's ready to return to the lineup and could suit up for Thursday's game against the Ottawa Senators.
IR means at least seven days must be missed. Dating it retroactively to Nov 23 means the seven days are already up.
However it could also mean that Kane's injury is more serious than originally expected and he could be missing some serious time.
