Insider wonders if Patrick Kane could return to Chicago
Sunday was a special day for the Chicago Blackhawks organization. Prior to their game against the Detroit Red Wings, they honoured Hockey Hall of Famer Chris Chelios by retiring his number 7.
It also marked Patrick Kane's return to Chicago for the first time since leaving the organization last season after a trade to the New York Rangers. Kane then became an unrestricted free agent this summer, had off-season surgery on his hip and signed with the Detroit Red Wings part-way through the 2023-24 campaign.
Kane spent parts of 16 seasons with the Blackhawks organization after being selected first overall in 2007, helping them win the Stanley Cup three times and on Sunday, he had a memorable return, scoring the overtime winner for the Red Wings.
During Monday's 32 Thoughts podcast, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman wondered if there's a possibility that Patrick Kane could return to the Chicago Blackhawks in free agency.
"I just wonder if there's any chance now after watching that whole night I just can't wonder if it [Kane returning to Chicago] could be possible."
The Buffalo, New York native has been a great addition to the Detroit Red Wings, playing at above a point-per-game pace. In 27 games, Kane has recorded 28 points (12 goals, 16 assists), four penalty minutes and is a minus-one.
