Paralyzed Detroit Red Wings legend Vladimir Konstantinov takes to the ice for the first time since his accident to play hockey

The Detroit Red Wings were on top of the world after winning the Stanley Cup in 1997. Six days after celebrating one of the best moments of their entire life, tragedy struck. On June 13th, 1997 a limousine carrying multiple members of the Red Wings was reported to have been in a serious accident, with calls coming in around 9:15 local police received a call about the single vehicle crash.

That night, three members of the Red Wings were in the car at the time of the accident. Red Wings players, Vladimir Konstantinov and Slava Fetisov were both in the vehicle along with team masseur Sergei Mnatsakanov, as they made their way back from a golf outing with the team. All three men were seriously hurt, with Konstantinov being the most gravely injured. The accident ended Konstantinov's career and left him with permanent brain injuries and paralysis.

Today however, Konstantinov was able to return to the ice for one of the first times playing hockey since his accident.

This heartwarming experience is an incredible testament to the human spirit and such an amazing gesture is great to see, especially for such a legend who had his career cut short.
