Earlier this evening it was announced over Detroit Red Wings social media that the home game at Little Caesars Arena against the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins was going to be delayed and there was no other news to report.
Later on, there was an update by the Red Wings expressing that the game would go ahead, but the game itself would be pushed back from its original start time 7 pm to 830PM to allow for enough time for the Pittsburgh Penguins to arrive.
Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond anyone's control, the game was officially postponed. No makeup date has been announced.
While many will look at the game and wonder why it should be made up seeing as it's preseason, preseason games are actually quite important in the grand scheme of things.
The games themselves allow players who haven't necessarily experienced game situations an opportunity to get back into the swing of things. For players who are with teams on a PTO, it's way more important to them as in many cases their livelihood could be at stake.
The Penguins' next game is scheduled to be in Sudbury, ON for Kraft Hockeyville as they visit to take on the Ottawa Senators. The Detroit Red Wings next travel to Buffalo to take on the Sabres at KeyBank Centre.
Update: The Detroit Red Wings will host the Pittsburgh Penguins Monday night with puck drop commencing at 7 PM.
The Red Wings will also host the Ottawsa Senators in a split squad game monday. Game time to be determined.
