Former Edmonton Oilers player claims he nearly died while the team accused him of faking his injury
During his time in the National Hockey League, rugged defender Sheldon Souray was one of the toughest guys out there. Of course, he ran into some health issues and injury troubles during his time with the Edmonton Oilers, at one point, he even landed in a hospital bed with a bone and blood disease.
Souray recently opened up about the ordeal on a podcast claiming that the Oilers thought he was milking being sick so he wouldn't have to play for the team anymore. Meanwhile he admitted to almost dying in the hospital and needing antibiotics dropped directly on his heart at one point; take a look.
The accusation at the time came from the strength coach which obviously sent Souray into a rage and prompted him to leave messages for the Oilers ownership group which was lead by Kevin Lowe and Daryl Katz voicing his anger at the accusations the team was making.
I couldn't imagine fighting for my life in the hospital with a bone and blood disease and an employer, who obviously is close to the situation and knows that I'm in a hospital head accuse me of milking it. That's just unfathomable to say the least.
The good thing out of all of this was not only did Souray recover, but he played for 2 more NHL teams for two seasons after he left the Oilers, What a terrible look for the Oilers ownership group though.
