The Edmonton Oilers are struggling mightily to start the new season, with rumors suggesting a coaching change could be on the way if the Oilers can't get their season on the right track.

Through the first 10 games of the season, Edmonton has a record of 2-7-1. The Oilers are second last in the Pacific division, trailing the Vegas Golden Knights by 18 points.

Going into the season Edmonton was looked at as a potential Stanley Cup favorite and now it seems like making the playoffs is a dream.

TSN's Ryan Rishaug reports that if things don't turn around in Edmonton soon head coach Jay Woodcroft could be fired.

«This team has Stanley Cup expectations and they have shown nothing so far this season,» Rishaug said. «Unfortunately for Jay Woodcroft, and he knows this, it's a results-oriented business and they have had no results so far.

«I do believe [firing Woodcroft] is on the table. If 10 out of 10 is where you are at when you fire a coach I'd put this in the seven and a half to eight range. It is getting to be situation critical time.»

Edmonton embarks on a three-game road trip this week facing the Vancouver Canucks, San Jose Sharks, and Seattle Kraken.

According to Rishaug, something positive needs to happen on this trip.

«They need to show something significant on this road trip or there will be changes,»

Edmonton have gone through three head coaches since Connor McDavid entered the league in 2015. The team has fired Todd McLellan, Dave Tippett, could Jay Woodcroft be next?
