Oilers grant 22-year-old defenceman permission to seek trade
The Edmonton Oilers could reportedly be gearing up to move on from one of their young defencemen, four years after selecting him eighth overall.
First reported by Kevin Weekes of ESPN, the Edmonton Oilers are exploring trade options for 22-year-old Philip Broberg.
"👀 I'm told the @EdmontonOilers are exploring potential Trade options on young D Broberg. Given the #LetsGoOilers Cap situation, it would likely have to be dollar for dollar transaction. #HockeyX #HockeyTwitter #Alberta." Weekes said.
Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff went on to add that the Oilers are allowing Philip Broberg and his camp to look for a trade partner and that several teams are interested in the Orebro native.
Seravalli also shared that the Oilers are wanting to receive a player in return in any trade involving Broberg and aren't interested in getting a draft pick.
"Understand the #Oilers granted permission for Philip Broberg's camp to seek a trade. Sounds like there has been solid interest on that front.
Edmonton isn't interested in getting a pick back, they'd like a player. So you'll have to likely find a player in a similar situation." Seravalli said.
Broberg has appeared in ten games for the Edmonton Oilers, but has failed to record any points and is only averaging 10:32 time on ice this season. He's also played in four games for Edmonton's AHL affiliate in Bakersfield, putting up two assists.
There's no doubt, as Seravalli mentions, that there are already several teams interest in the former eighth overall pick given his potential and his age. Given the amount of interest, there's definitely a possibility that things could move pretty quickly on the Broberg front and a deal could be completed in the coming weeks.
