The Oilers captain was injured on October 28 in a game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. Later, the organization announced that he would miss two to three weeks with a lower-body injury.
Hockey experts were expecting to see McDavid return before the set recovery timeline, but not to this extent. Indeed, he returned to the ice Monday and provided a surprising update on his injury. Today, it was announced that he will get back on the lineup tonight against the Vegas Golden Knights, only eight days after he sustained his injury.
Sportsnet's insider Elliotte Friedman shared the news:
It was also confirmed by the Edmonton Oilers organization on X:
McDavid only missed three games, and his team managed to win two of them, against the Nashville Predators and Calgary Flames, thanks to Leon Draisaitl's two straight three-point games. Unfortunately, they lost 3-0 against the New Jersey Devils on Monday in a standout effort from the Devils goaltender Jake Allen.
With McDavid back in the lineup, the Oilers are in a great position to bounce back from that tough loss. Tonight's game against their division rivals will be crucial in their attempt to climb up the rankings. If they win, they'll be only two points away from the Golden Knights, who are at the 2nd spot in the Pacific Division.
In 10 games this season, the captain scored 10 points, including three goals. Oilers fans sure hope to see him get back to his usual rhythm despite the injury setback to lead the team to success.
