The Boston Bruins and Toronto Maple Leafs always bring a little extra intensity when they do battle on the ice, and that was no different on Tuesday during the Leafs dominant 4-0 victory. However, there was one moment that stood out above all else, as Brad Marchand jumped Chris Tanev after a hit to David Pastrnak, leading to all hell breaking loose on the ice, with both teams heavily involved in a major scuffle.
At first glance, the hit from Tanev may not have been the worst we've ever seen, but slowed down it's understandable why Bruins captain Marchand was so upset, as Pastrnak was hit with his head facing the boards, putting him at serious risk of injury.
Chris Tanev certainly isn't the type of player to do something like that intentionally, but in this instance, given the struggle that Boston have been through and the bitter rivalry between these two teams, this was perhaps Marchand's way of trying to spark his team.
It may not have worked though, as the team struggled once again, as the team were shutout for the third time this season despite registering 29 shots on goal, and with the team now sitting at 6-7-1, the warning signs are certainly there. There's still plenty of time for them to turn their season around, but after dominating the regular season so much over the past three years, there's reason to worry in Boston, and if acts like this from their captain can't get their season going, it may be the final one for Jim Montgomery as Bruins Head Coach.
