The Edmonton Oilers, fresh off being one game away from being crowned Stanley Cup champions made some key additions on top of making some key deletions this past summer. While they added where they felt was necessary, they also lost defenceman Cody Ceci who they dealt in a trade. With a week and a half to go before the regular season begins, it appears as if they have looked in on the Chicago Blackhawks to find his replacement.
According to a report by ESPN's Greg Wyshynski, the Oilers could be interested in Chicago Blackhawks Seth Jones if GM Kyle Davidson decides to move him. Currently, the Oilers look like they may rely heavily on Ty Emberson this season who they received when they shipped Ceci to the San Jose Sharks, but Stan Bowman would be crazy if he didn't try to negotiate a deal for the 6'4 213lb defender who he originally signed to his current deal when they were both members of the Blackhawks.
In Jones, the Oilers would be getting a veteran defenceman who can skate top-pairing minutes. It also doesn't hurt that he's a right-handed shot. Two things the Oilers will need if they feel they can get back to the Stanley Cup finals, which isn't likely, but anything is possible.
On the other hand, what would it take to convince Kyle Davidson to part ways with Jones? The risk may outweigh the reward for both the Blackhawks and the Oilers.
All this to say that a Jones-Bowman reunion is plausible, but how likely?
