After Saturday night's win against the Montreal Canadiens, a game which which saw Canadiens Patrik Laine and David Reinbacher go down with knee injuries, LeafsNation came to the defence of their team and to be honest some of the responses are pretty ridiculous.
While everyone has a right to an opinion, often it feels like Toronto Maple Leafs fans hold themselves in the highest regard and while it's likely that they are the smartest fans and especially the most passionate, it's games and instances like Saturday night where Cedric Pare went knee on knee with Patrik Laine when the most ridiculous people come out of the woodwork trying to defend a team with some of the most ridiculous responses ever curated on the internet.
To be fair to Arber Xhekaj, he was just doing his job sticking up for a teammate that was caught in a vulnerable position but Maple Leafs fans won't see that because they see what they want to see as they bleed blue and white.
Many Toronto Maple Leafs fans have this ability to twist a story that defends their team. This in turn creates a narrative which forces people to look at it as if they're supporting every action of the organization. For fans who actually care and can recognize what's going on, how the game should be played and doesn't blow things out of proportion, these types of people who are usually behind a screen voicing their opinions are the types of people who make the true fans of the team look bad. While unfortunately there have always been people grouped in both categories it seems to have gotten worse as time has gone on. Whether it be because of social media or some other factor is up for anyone's interpretation. As long as the team exists, these people will always be a part of it and give everyone who listens whatever narrative they can.
