The Edmonton Oilers are off to a rocky start in 2024/25, and now it appears their captain may be dealing with a major injury issue after an early departure from Monday night's game following a seemingly innocuous spill.

After nine games this season, the Edmonton Oilers have posted a 4-4-1 record, but now things may have gone from bad to worse for the team. Early in Monday's game with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Connor McDavid took a spill, and while it didn't look severe on the ice, the team announced shortly after that he was done for the night.

The Oilers captain seemed to be travelling at a high speed into the offensive zone when he took a spill, sliding around the boards, and eventually, he slowly made his way off the ice. Non contact injuries after often the worst for professional athletes to sustain, and with a trip from an opposing player taking McDavid down, it's not a good sign for the Oilers.

It's unclear how much the trip impacted the play, but with the team struggling out of the gates fully healthy, the Edmonton Oilers fanbase will be collectively holding their breath for a positive update on No. 97. Last season, the team adapted well to playing without him, although that was only with six games out of the lineup, so fingers crossed for not only Oilers fans but hockey fans that McDavid will be back on the ice soon.

Check back for updates on this story as we will continue to cover McDavid's potential injury as updates officially come through, but for now, we simply sit and wait on news that could change the landscape of the NHL.
