Conflicting reports have surfaced over the last couple months about the future of Leon Draisaitl and his future in Edmonton. What was once thought to be a sure thing to be signed on July 1st, has drug on all summer. Last week it was reported that when Leon arrived in Edmonton that he was surprised by the initial offer of the team.
It was reported previously that Draisaitl had already given the team a deadline to come to terms on a contract. According to sources, Leon was unwilling to negotiate during the season, putting an October deadline on the team.
It now appears that deadline has encouraged the Oilers to increase their offer. According to the 2 Mutts Podcast a deal appears imminent.
2 Mutts Podcast, recently broke the story that the Oilers would retain neither Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg, offering significant credibility to this rumor. It will be interesting to see what the final number comes in at, and if the Oilers try to use any deferred money to manage the salary cap.
