If the Edmonton Oilers win tonight, or in Game 7 on Tuesday in Dallas, Corey Perry will become the first player in National Hockey League history to appear in the Stanley Cup Final with five different organizations. His first, in 2007, came with the Anaheim Ducks which is so far his only win. He then appeared in three Stanley Cup Finals in a row - Dallas (2020), Montreal (2021) and Tampa Bay (2022), but came up short each year.
It's been an up-and-down year for the 28th overall pick in 2003. He signed with the Chicago Blackhawks last summer but in November, after allegedly engaging in unacceptable conduct, Perry was placed on unconditional waivers and had his contract terminated.
Less than two months later, after a meeting with National Hockey League Commissioner Gary Bettman, Perry became eligible to sign with other teams and inked a one-year deal with the Edmonton Oilers for the remainder of the 202324 campaign.
His time in Edmonton has been a bit of a rollercoaster and at time in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, Perry has found himself in the press box as a healthy scratch. In 38 regular season games with the Oilers, Perry had 13 points (five goals, eight assists) and has one assist in 12 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
The Oilers will look to advance to their first Stanley Cup Final in 18 years with a win tonight. Puck drop is set for 8 pm ET on CBC and Sportsnet.
