Former first rounder Adam Boqvist finds new home after being bought out
Former first round pick Adam Boqvist has found his new home and will be joining his third NHL team at just 23-years-old.
In a post on social media on Tuesday morning, the Florida Panthers announced that they've agreed to terms on a one-year, two-way contract with unrestricted free agent defenceman Adam Boqvist. Financial details of Boqvist's contract were not released by the Panthers.
"Florida Panthers President of Hockey Ops. & General Manager Bill Zito announced today that the club has agreed to terms with defenseman Adam Boqvist on a one-year, two-way contract." The Panthers said.
Boqvist, a native of Falun, Sweden had the final year of his contract bought out by the Columbus Blue Jackets late last month after being placed on unconditional waivers, making him an unrestricted free agent on July 1st after three seasons in Ohio.
As mentioned, the Florida Panthers will be the third team of Boqvist's career following the Columbus Blue Jackets and Chicago Blackhawks, the latter of whom selected him eighth overall back in 2018.
Last season, Boqvist appeared in just 35 games with the Blue Jackets due to injuries he sustained throughout the year. In those 35 games, Boqvist had ten points (one goal, nine assists) and was a minus-eight.
