It's been a busy week for Florida Panthers General Manager Bill Zito and on Thursday he was at it again, locking up a key member of the team's blueline to a long-term contract extension.

While meeting with the media this morning, Bill Zito told reporters that the team has agreed to terms on an eight-year contract with pending unrestricted free agent defenceman Gustav Forsling.

"The Panthers just locked up pending UFA Gustav Forsling on an 8-year extension.

TSN's Chris Johnston is reporting that the average annual value (AAV) on Gustav Forsling's contract is $5.75 million for a total of $46 million.

"Gustav Forsling signs an eight-year extension with #FlaPanthers carrying a $5.75M AAV.

Unbelievable for a guy once claimed on waivers."

Forsling, a native of Linkoping, Sweden has appeared in 62 games this season for the Florida Panthers, putting up 31 points (nine goals, 22 assists), 39 penalty minutes and is a whopping plus-44.
