Drew Doughty doesn't hold back in post game presser, calls out star player for only caring about himself
Drew Doughty has had enough of the losses and after another one to the Buffalo Sabres he's called out a star player on his own team.
The Los Angeles Kings have had an outstanding start to the season but things have taken a downward turn since the calendar turned to 2024. Since January 1st the Kings have only won two games going 2-12 during that stretch.
LA was hosting the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday night. The Kings were cruising into the second period with a 3-1 lead. Buffalo would respond by scoring four unanswered goals to win the game 5-3.
After the game veteran defenceman Drew Doughty ripped his teammates for playing selfish hockey which led to the blown lead.
"I think we got guys in this room who are too worried about themselves. Worried about their points. We get a 3-1 lead and guys start thinking it's cookie night. We stop playing the way we know how to play. We have an awful second period and aren't much better in the third. It's about the team. It's not about yourself and a lot of guys on this team need to realize that."
"It's frustrating not getting these wins. We're trying to stay positive. We're trying to get back to having fun out there and play our game, but it's hard to do that when your on a streak like this. This has been a struggle for us, and the only way were going to get out of it is if we get everybody's 100% effort and everyone playing for the team."
The one-time Norris Trophy winner is having another workhouse season. He is currently leading the NHL in average ice time with 26:08, while adding 11 goals and 25 points.
It's obvious Doughty is talking in part, about Pierre-Luc Dubois, who had a very underwhelming 10 goals and 10 assists for 20 points in 45 games this season.
LA is currently in a Wild Card position with a record of 22-14-9. They will look to get back on track when they face the Colorado Avalanche on Friday.
