Minnesota Wild forward confirms he played with broken leg during Round 1 versus Dallas
The first round of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs is nearly come to a close and over the last few days, we've been finding out about injuries that players have sustained, some of which have been pretty significant.
Case in point with Minnesota Wild forward Joel Eriksson Ek. During Minnesota's media availability on Monday, Eriksson Ek confirmed the extent of the injury he suffered during their first round series against the Dallas Stars.
Eriksson Ek told reporters that he suffered a broken fibula early in their series against Dallas, which he played with for one shift in Game 3 and then had surgery following their 5-1 win. It's unclear if he'll be ready to go for training camp, which begins in mid-September.
The 26-year-old had the best season of his NHL career so far, tallying 61 points (23 goals, 38 assists), 44 penalty minutes and was a plus-four in 78 games.
The Wild would go on to lose the next three games, thus eliminating them from the playoffs and now the Dallas Stars will take on the Seattle Kraken in Round 2 beginning on Tuesday night.
