With Patrik Laine now out of the National Hockey League's Player Assistance Program, teams are allowed to speak with him about a potential trade, as it has been rumoured for months now that his time with Columbus is likely coming to an end.
On Monday, Michael Russo and Joe Smith of The Athletic reported that the Minnesota Wild and General Manager Bill Guerin will reach out to Patrik Laine soon to see how he's doing - both mentally and physically - and to see if he would be interested in playing for the team.
The Minnesota Wild aren't the only team that has an interest in Patrik Laine, as TSN reported that both the Montreal Canadiens and Buffalo Sabres are rumoured to be in the mix for the Finnish sniper.
It was a tough 2023-24 campaign for Patrik Laine after suffering a fractured clavicle in December and then suffered a setback in his recovery from the injury. One day after it was revealed that Laine had suffered an injury setback, the 26-year-old entered the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program and missed the remainder of the season.
The Tampere, Finland native appeared in 18 games last season where he registered nine points (six goals, three assists), six penalty minutes and was a minus-ten.
We'll have to wait and see where things go on this front, with training camps around the NHL opening in roughly six weeks, but with the amount of interest there is in Patrik Laine, it wouldn't be a shock to see him with another organization by the time opening night rolls around.
