The rise of social media must be a massive pain in the a** for celebrities, especially those involved in sports. If you or family member has an account, you can pretty much count on at least a few rude messages from fans. During an appearance on the Cam & Strick podcast, Montreal Canadiens defenceman Chris Wideman says his wife has received messages regarding his play, and he has a response for his haters.

"My wife's getting messages like Your husband f--king sucks!'. We're like you don't think we already know that? I've been making f--king league minimum for ten years."

If you look through Wideman's profile on CapFriendly, you'll know he's telling the truth. Not that league minimum is a bad thing. Since Wideman borke into the NHL, it has gone from $540K to $750K. That said, Wideman spent some years making much less in the AHL and one in the KHL after the infamous "Uber Incident" when he was with the Ottawa Senators. Wideman and six of his teammates were captured on video in an Uber in Phoenix, Arizona sharply criticizing and making fun of then Sens assistant coach Marty Raymond.

It's great that he can at least have a sense of humour about the messages his wife receives. Wideman has one year left on his current contract with the Montreal Canadiens. It carries a cap hit of $750,000, which, of course, is the league minimum.
