Currently there are few more exciting goaltending prospects for an NHL team than Jacob Fowler, with the Montreal Canadiens believing they got a steal in the third-round of the 2023 NHL Draft.
Through 38 games a year ago, Fowler posted an impressive .926 save percentage alongside a 2.14 GAA, and somehow he's gotten even better this season, improving those numbers to a 1.56 GAA and a .950 save percentage through 8 games.
Unfortunately, those numbers have now been overshadowed by an incident in Boston College's latest game with the UConn Huskies, as the underdog Huskies picked up a dramatic 5-4 upset win.
After the winning goal, Fowler shockingly punched the player that scored the goal in a move that went viral on social media.
Unsurprisingly, a suspension was always going to follow that act, and on Saturday it was confirmed that the 19-year old will miss one game as a result of his unnecessary actions.
The talent for Fowler is not going away anytime soon, as he has great size at 6-foot-2 and the numbers to back it up, but with an incident like this, he could gain a reputation that's certainly not going to bode well for his NHL future.
It's not yet been made clear either what the motivation behind the move was, as there was no clear intent to hurt Fowler on this play, but perhaps that will be uncovered now that a suspension has been announced.
Whatever the case, Fowler remains the top Canadiens goaltending prospect, and will have a very bright future in the NHL, but after this move, he has to show that this isn't his character.
