Montreal Canadiens sign top prospect Lane Hutson to entry-level deal
The moment Montreal Canadiens fans have been waiting for is finally here as the team has announced the signing of top prospect Lane Hutson.
In a post on social media on Friday afternoon, the Canadiens announced that they've agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract with Lane Hutson that begins this season. Financial details of Hutson's contract were not disclosed by the Canadiens.
"Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced on Friday that the team has agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract with defenseman Lane Hutson (2023-24 to 2025-26)." The team said in post on their website.
The 20-year-old has been arguably the best defenceman in the NCAA over the last couple of seasons. Last season, his rookie year with Boston University, Hutson had 48 points in 39 games and followed that up with 49 points (15 goals, 34 assists), 24 penalty minutes and was a plus-14 in 38 games during the 2023-24 campaign.
Hutson won't play tomorrow night against the Ottawa Senators, but will travel to Detroit to meet up with the Canadiens and is expected to make his National Hockey League debut on Monday night against the Red Wings. His Bell Centre debut will come one day later, also against the Detroit Red Wings.
This is a big moment for the Montreal Canadiens organization and their fan base, who are excited to be getting an elite, offensive defenceman joining the fold, one who will play a big role in helping the team get back to being a consistent playoff contender.
