Earlier today a new report came out providing a major update on Patrik Laine and his progress toward recovery from a knee injury.

Patrik Laine was excited for a fresh new start with the Montreal Canadiens after being traded to the team this summer by the Columbus Blue Jackets. Unfortunately during the preseason, Laine's path to a regular season debut was derailed by a dirty hit from Toronto Maple Leafs forward Cedric Pare. The hit landed Patrik Laine on injured reserve with an injury.

Since suffering the injury Patrik Laine has not been on the ice with the Canadiens but has been seen around the facility on crutches. Today a new report from Montreal Canadiens reporter Eric Engels confirmed that Patrik Laine has taken a major step forward and is now off of his crutches.

The news was also confirmed by Patrik Laine's fiance who posted a recent picture of him without the crutches as well.

This is the first big step in the recovery process for Patrik Laine. According to reports he still has a large brace on his knee which will still prevent him from skating for a while. This overall news is incredibly positive especially since at one point there were concerns Laine's injury could be season-ending. His official recovery time is now 2-3 months from the injury and being off of crutches so soon could hint that he could be back sooner rather than later.

Once he returns the Montreal Canadiens are hoping to help Patrik Laine get back to his prime form. During the best season of his career with the Winnipeg Jets Laine tallied 70 points and 44 goals. If the Canadiens can get Patrik Laine back to that elite level of goal scoring they could unlock a whole new level of potential as a team.

With Patrik Laine's recovery still continuing we will pass along the latest information and progress that he makes until he makes his official Montreal Canadiens debut.
